💵 Pricing & how billing works

Cooked by Conte works with two kinds of billing:

    • Self-Determination Program (SDP): services are billed through the participant's FMS with purchase orders — we prepare the PO, the FMS approves it, and sessions are released once it's in place. We work with all FMS's, and our vendor paperwork is already in place with most of them.
    • Private pay: we accept all of the most common payment methods — debit cards, credit cards, Google Pay, Apple Pay, ACH, and more — securely online when they book. We also accept FSA and HSA using Flex payments: at checkout the participant simply selects "Pay with HSA/FSA" and enters their HSA/FSA card like a regular card, paying with pre-tax dollars (typically a 30–40% net savings). When a service needs a Letter of Medical Necessity to qualify, Flex handles it with a brief physician-reviewed telehealth step — no paperwork on your end, and everything stays IRS-compliant.

Session cost depends on the number of menu items booked (1–5), which sets how much chef time is reserved in the participant's home:

Menu itemsSession priceEstimated time in the home
    1 menu item$260~2 hours
    2 menu items$320~3 hours
    3 menu items$380~4 hours
    4 menu items$440~4.5 hours
    5 menu items$500~5.5 hours

Every menu item can be made in a small or large batch — from 2 servings up to 8 servings per menu item, chosen dish by dish. Groceries are always client-paid (see the FAQ below for why). For a quote for a specific participant, message us from your inbox here in the portal.

    📋 Procedures — referring & onboarding
    1. Refer the participant with the button above — you can create their account for them. All information is optional unless it's necessary information; we let the client fill out the rest, but feel free to fill out as much as you like.
    2. They get an email link to access their account (we also reach out to introduce ourselves and answer questions), where they choose a password and select the dates and times they'd like to begin services.
    3. They complete a short onboarding — anything you already filled in is pre-populated: meal prep or cooking classes, SDP or private pay, and the address of service.
    4. Chef matching: they choose a chef near them, pick dates, and select their menu.
    5. You can follow along — as much as the participant allows. Every client decides during onboarding whether to share progress with their care team. If the participant names your email and toggles care-team sharing ON, your participants list above shows their full session progress: dates, session status, menus, and session feedback. If sharing is toggled off — or a different email is named — you'll see only whether the referral is a Lead or marked Onboarded. This keeps each participant's information handled exactly the way they allow.

    🏠 About Us

We do simple things exceptionally well.

At Cooked by Conte, we believe every participant deserves thoughtful, individualized support built around their needs, preferences, and goals.

Some participants want to build cooking skills and become more independent in the kitchen. Others need meals prepared for them according to specific dietary, sensory, cultural, or medical needs. Wherever a participant is starting, we meet them there and provide the level of support that works best for them.

We believe being able to feed yourself is one of the foundations of independence. For some participants, that means learning to plan, prepare, and cook their own meals. For others, it means having reliable access to nourishing food made safely in their own home.

We also believe the home kitchen is the best place for this work. Commercial kitchens can produce large quantities of food, but they cannot provide the same attention to detail, flexibility, and personal connection that comes from working one-on-one in a participant's own space.

Our chefs focus on the individual in front of them—using their kitchen, honoring their preferences, following their dietary needs, and supporting their goals.

    Simple things, done exceptionally well.

    ❓ FAQs
    Do you accept SDP funds?

Yes — we're one of the few companies specializing in culinary support services that accept SDP.

    What areas do you service?

We currently service all of California. We have the most chefs and capacity in:

    • Los Angeles
    • Orange County
    • San Diego
    • Inland Empire
    • San Francisco to San Jose

We also have capacity in Ventura County, Bakersfield, and the high desert from Palmdale to Adelanto to Palm Springs. Outside those areas? Don't hesitate to reach out — we can gain capacity fairly quickly in new areas.

What skills are you able to work on?

An extremely large variety of skills and goals listed in PCP plans and participant goals. With our one-on-one approach, we work at each client's pace with an individualized plan. Common goals include:

    • Meal planning, meal preparation, and meal storage & reheating — so the participant is able to feed themselves for the rest of their lives.
    • Reading grocery lists and grocery shopping.
    • Following menus and directions to complete dishes.
    • The ability of choice — choosing what they want to eat and when. Our menu spans breakfast through dinner and dessert, and ordering in our app is very interactive so participants choose what they want.

We also work with participants who are lower-functioning or have strict dietary regulations. That can be for life skills, or for supporting an independent living situation where the participant needs meals prepared for them — for example, a participant with regressive Down syndrome, Crohn's disease, or on dialysis. In some situations it's better to focus on the prepared-meals aspect of dietary needs and goals, which sometimes means eating healthier and other times means very strict dietary restrictions such as dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free, egg-free, nut-free, kosher, and more.

How do you handle dietary restrictions?

When a client creates an account, they specify their dietary regulations, and those are applied to every single order — if they specify gluten-free, every item they order is tailored gluten-free. On top of that, every time they choose a menu they can add per-dish preferences ("no eggs in this one", "beef instead of chicken") that apply only to that menu item.

Every order is checked by our advanced system to make sure menus are tailored, double-checked by our team before going to the chefs, and triple-checked by the chef against the client profile and the recipe. It's important that the client or care team specifies all dietary regulations in their form — and they can always update it as diets change over a lifetime.

This individualized, in-home approach with so much attention to detail is a much safer way to assure dietary compliance than commercially made meals produced in facilities that process all of the non-dietary-restricted ingredients. It's one of the biggest reasons our company was built to be one-on-one and in-home.

Can groceries be billed through SDP?

No — groceries cannot be billed to SDP under HCBS guidelines, for either cooking classes or prepared meals. HCBS guidelines specify SDP funds are not for room and board, typical groceries, or prepared meals. Our program works because we require all groceries to be client-paid; our service fees cover the professional services in the one-on-one environment at approved billing rates. We do our absolute best to stay compliant and make sure our program will be around for the lifetime of our participants.

What if the participant has a small kitchen or limited cooking supplies?

Our chefs are trained to cook in any sized kitchen, and participants choose whether the chef brings their own equipment (pots, pans, knives, etc.) or uses what's already in the home. We give this choice because sometimes the participant has limited supplies — but other times it's very beneficial to teach participants to cook with their own equipment that's already in their home.

    Do you offer group classes?

No — at this time our approach is one-on-one sessions in the participant's home. This ensures the safety of all participants and that proper engagement and attention is spent in each session. We believe the in-home setting is the best place to learn daily life skills like preparing meals for yourself, and that preparing meals with intention inside your own home is higher quality than working in a commercial kitchen. We want everyone to have access to our services, and that isn't always possible in a commercial setting.

Do the same chefs keep coming, or different chefs each time?

That's up to the participant — they always know who is coming to their home for every session, viewable in their portal, and they can select their chef for each session. Both can be valuable: new chefs bring new techniques and more social engagement, while the same chef learns the rhythm of the household and builds a relationship with the client. Participants set a preferred chef under their account settings (changeable any time), and when booking they can view every available chef for each session along with their availability, bio, and food photos. Every chef is background-checked, CBC-vetted, and HCBS-compliant.
